
| | Politecnico di Milano is the largest Technical University in Italy (with its 1950 faculties and administrative and technical staff, more than 25,000 enrolled students) and one of the largest in Europe. The Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione (POLIMI) is among the largest ones of the Politecnico di Milano as it counts 167 faculty members, 270 people among contract professors, short-terms researchers and Ph.D. students, and a staff of about 45 people in administrative and technical areas. The POLIMI is devoted to innovative research and advanced education in the most important fields of information technology. It is organized in four distinct scientific areas: Electronics, Computer Engineering, Automation and Telecommunications. The POLIMI has been directly involved in more than one hundred EC research projects and has incomes for more then 7 million euros each year from research contracts. |

| | The University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) is one of the 7 Universities of Applied Sciences in Switzerland. It has a university statute, focused on professional training and applied research. Together with the University of Southern Switzerland (USI), it is the only Italian language university pole in Switzerland, with almost 4,000 students in the Lugano region. Founded in 1992, ICIMSI (Institute of Computer Integrated Manufacturing for Sustainable Innovation) has since January 1, 1998 functioned as a venue for applied scientific computer applications and industrial technology for the SUPSI. The Institute, whose staffs consists of 30 collaborators, participates in a network of national and international centres of expertise committed to the practical support and orientation of the market for small and medium size industries. TAI, a sector of ICIMSI, focuses its activities to the industrial automation field, particularly to the development of software applications which allow the design and control of systems, ranging from a single tool machine or robot (CNC and SoftPLC) up to complex work cells (CACSD tools with automatic generation of code). |
